As of October 25, 2026 the U.S. Department of Energy lists 674 public CNG stations that are open and taking fuel customers, in 42 states. 643 are open around the clock, 563 can take a Class 8 tractor, and 462 sell renewable natural gas. Another 664 natural gas sites are private fleet yards, and 2 are planned but not open.

The DOE database holds 1352 CNG records for the United States. This site counts only the 674 that are both public and open. Left out: 664 private or fleet-only sites (transit yards, utility depots, refuse fleets, school districts), 2 planned stations that have not opened, and 12 public stations listed as temporarily unavailable.
