Driving I-80 on natural gas

I-80 has the longest empty stretches of any corridor on this site apart from West Texas. The Bay Area and Sacramento are dense, but after the last Sierra foothill station there is no public CNG across Nevada at all, and the corridor page's longest gap runs from the Grass Valley area to Salt Lake City. Utah's Wasatch Front stations are the only fills for hundreds of miles in either direction, and after Rock Springs and Cheyenne in Wyoming the next fill is Lincoln, Nebraska.

From Omaha east the corridor becomes ordinary: Des Moines, the Quad Cities, the Joliet area south of Chicago, northern Indiana and Ohio, then a run of Pennsylvania stations and the New Jersey turnpike sites before the George Washington Bridge. A coast-to-coast natural gas run on I-80 is possible for a tractor with a large package, but it is a two-stop crossing of the Great Basin and the High Plains with no margin for a closed station; call ahead on both.
