Ohio: an independent-station state with utility roots

Ohio's public CNG grew out of two things: Utica shale gas, which made the state a natural gas producer after 2011, and a run of city fleets in Columbus, Dayton and Canton that converted refuse and service trucks and built stations they were willing to share. IGS CNG Services, a Columbus energy marketer, built the largest named group of public stations in the state; Clean Energy and Trillium added truck sites on the interstates, and the former Beyond6 stations now carry the Chevron name.

Nearly every Ohio station is a 3,600 psi quick-fill marked for heavy-duty vehicles, and most carry the RNG badge. A higher share than usual are municipal sites, which can mean office hours and a card reader rather than a 24-hour canopy; the hours line on each listing is worth reading before a night arrival.

Coverage is best along the I-70 and I-71 crossroads at Columbus, around Canton and Akron on I-77, and along I-75 from Dayton north through Findlay. The I-80 corridor page shows the Toledo to Youngstown run across the top of the state.
