Utah: where CNG was cheap first

For years Utah had the cheapest CNG in the country, because Questar Gas priced it as a regulated utility service and built public stations at its own facilities up and down the Wasatch Front. That made Salt Lake City one of the few places in the U.S. where ordinary drivers bought Civic GX sedans and bi-fuel pickups in numbers, and where a used natural gas car still finds a market. Questar became Dominion Energy Utah and, in 2024, Enbridge Gas Utah, so half the public stations here now carry the Enbridge name.

The other half are the truck stations that came later: Chevron's former Beyond6 sites, a Pilot and a Clean Energy site on the I-15 and I-80 freight lanes, plus a few independents at convenience stores and a Waste Management yard. Every public station in the state is 3,600 psi quick-fill and open 24 hours, and nearly all are marked for Class 8 access and carry the RNG badge.

The Wasatch Front from Ogden through Salt Lake City to Provo is the dense part. Outside it, stations sit at Logan, Price, Richfield and a few I-15 towns; the I-80 corridor page shows Salt Lake City as the only fill for hundreds of miles in either direction.
