North Carolina: a utility-built network

Almost three quarters of North Carolina's public CNG stations belong to the state's two gas utilities. Piedmont Natural Gas built public stations at its service centers across the Charlotte and Triad regions, and PSNC Energy did the same in the Triangle and the east; PSNC now operates under the Enbridge name after Enbridge bought it from Dominion in 2024, which is why the listings here say Enbridge. Both utilities sell to the public, take ordinary credit cards, and run 3,600 psi quick-fill dispensers, but many are at a service center gate rather than a convenience store, so look at the listing's address and hours before assuming a truck-stop layout.

The few non-utility sites are a Waste Management station, a pair of former Beyond6 sites now branded Chevron, and municipal yards. Fewer than half of the state's stations carry the RNG badge.

The network follows I-85 and I-40 from Charlotte through Greensboro and Winston-Salem to Raleigh and Durham, with outliers in Asheville, Wilmington and along I-95. The I-40 corridor page shows North Carolina as the best-served state on that interstate east of Oklahoma.
